Financial support
The RMBF provides a range of financial support from one-off grants or loans to help with childcare or retraining costs. Each case is dealt with on an individual basis and the assistance the RMBF gives is tailored to the individual's need.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the RMBF’s assistance, potential beneficiaries must:
- Have, or had, full GMC registration or have Provisional GMC registration or have been granted Provisional GMC registration within the last 36 months.
OR
Be a dependant of, ie financially reliant, on such a doctor. - Be unable to undertake paid employment to support yourself, due to illness or disability; because you are the primary carer of a child or someone who is sick or disabled or because you are over state retirement age.
- Be in financial need with little in the way of income and savings.

How to apply
In the first instance,please contact one of our Caseworkers on 0208 540 9194 or e-mail our caseworkers. We will then send you an application pack . We will also ask you to provide evidence of your financial circumstances and the details of two referees (one medical).
When we receive your fully completed application form and supporting documentation and assuming this confirms you are eligible for help we will:
- Check the relevant registration with the GMC
- Arrange for one of our Area Visitors to visit you at home
- Take up your references
- Check if we need any further information from you
- Prepare a report on your application
- Consider your application at one of our bi monthly Case Committee meetings.
We will then let you know if we are in a position to help you. Sometimes we are able to involve another charity to provide help - either instead of the Fund if you are not eligible for our assistance or in addition to our help.
What isn't covered
The RMBF does not provide financial support towards the cost of certain items, including:
- Second degrees
- Private health care and medical insurance
- Private education
- Legal fees
- Inland Revenue payments
- Repaying loans from family and friends
- Improvements and repairs to rented property
