Volunteer
Our volunteers are the backbone of the RMBF. They provide vital support to our beneficiaries and help to promote our work throughout the medical profession so that doctors and their families know who to turn to in times of need.
The RMBF always welcome new volunteers. Whether you would like to get involved visiting applicants to help identify their needs, spreading the word and fundraising or befriending our more isolated beneficiaries - we would love to hear from you. Our key areas for volunteers are outlined below.
Become an Area Visitor
Would you like to help colleagues and their dependants in times of need?
- Are you a doctor, a doctor's partner or a member of one of the caring professions?
- Would you be available for a few hours a month?
We are looking for Area Visitors to be our local contacts and in particular to:
- Visit a small number of applicants and beneficiaries at their homes at least once a year
- Prepare reports to help the Case Committee assess how financial help can most effectively be allocated
- Offer personal support where appropriate
Guidance and support will be provided. If we already have experienced Visitors in your area, we may ask you to join our waiting list or explore if you might like to help in another way.
Become a Medical Liaison Officer for your area
- Are you a currently practicing or recently retired doctor and have good contacts within the medical community in your area?
- Can you spare a few hours a month to be an ambassador for the RMBF?
We are looking for enthusiastic doctors who are willing to use their medical experience and contacts to help raise our profile.
Join our team of MLOs -
- Help ensure all those who may need help know where to turn
- Liaise with hospitals, medical centres and societies in your area
- Keep us up to date with the issues affecting doctors and their families locally so our help remains relevant across the UK
Become an RMBF PhoneFriend
For those who are isolated by reason of age or illness we provide a telephone befriending scheme and may be able to arrange a befriender if you or someone you know would find this helpful.
Join our Support4Doctors advisory panel
If you are a working doctor, we would welcome your input. Through the Support4Doctors website, we are looking to provide access to a wide range of information, advice and support for doctors. As a member of the advisory panel, you can advise us on keeping this up-to-date and relevant to the current issues faced by doctors.
