Who we are
We are the leading UK charity for the medical profession. We provide advice, support and financial help to doctors, medical students and the families of both. Whether you are living in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland - we may be able to help.

Help that makes a difference
Give someone a fish and you feed them for a day. Give them a fishing rod and you feed them for life. That's our philosophy here at the RMBF. That's why we have developed tailored packages of support to help doctors and their dependants who have been unable to work, due to accident, illness or crisis, to retrain to get back to work.
Of course, not everyone we help will be able to work. In a typical year, our beneficiaries range from young children to those well into their nineties or even older. In such cases, our approach is to provide a package of help to ensure a reasonable dignity and quality of life.
We also help by providing practical information and advice. This includes specialist Money Advice to ensure beneficiaries receive the full state benefits for which they are eligible, renegotiate debts (where appropriate) and gain fuller control of their financial situation - usually resulting in a useful boost to household finances.
One interesting complementary initiative is the provision of a Money Advice website for medical students, to help them qualify with a more manageable level of debt.
Funded by medical families
The money we raise to support doctors and their families comes from fellow doctors and their families. Some send donations to support our Annual Appeal, widely featured in the medical press. Some send Gift Aided annual subscriptions. Some support local fundraising events. Some kindly remember us in their wills.
Others generously contribute their time, for example, to undertake home visits to help assess need and provide support, to organise local fundraising events and to make known the help we provide to their colleagues.
